On our Visit to the Ugandan High Commission in Abuja, Uganda High Commissioner – H.E Nelson Ocheger held a meeting with our Secretary General – Ms. Funmi Folorunso and discussed ways of building the capacity of African Governments and the private sector to own their own fleet so as to handle cargo.

Building on the initiatives of the just concluded African Shipowners association Annual General Meeting, Ms. Funmi Folorunso informed the High Commissioner that the organization intends to bring landlocked countries on board to participate in the Blue Economy and work towards the development of an African Fleet Agenda. This initiative she stated would help African governments access to financing their own fleet and hence bring down the cost of doing business and intracontinental trade.
The High Commissioner informed Ms. Funmi Folorunso that Uganda being a landlocked country clearly appreciates the role played by African Shipowners and freight forwarders and expressed his gratitude towards the organisation’s decision to open up a country office in Uganda and link Ugandan freight forwarders with their counterparts from ocean accessing countries.
In his concluding remarks, The High Commissioner thanked Ms. Funmi Folorunso for the initiative taken to build the capacity of landlocked countries so as to enable them to participate in the global maritime sector since Uganda is also blessed with many inland lakes.
